Overlooking Los Angeles just off the 405 Freeway is Hotel Angeleno, It is quite the place to stay a for a few days. With a contemporary setting and all the amenities of a Five star property as I see it, Hotel Angeleno has its main star, The West Restaurant on the 17th floor. There's a 200 degree scenic view of the south portion of Los Angeles all the way to the beaches of Santa Monica. It's an incredible view with a cocktail bar and lounge that opens up to this scenic view and sunken lounges which provide that intimate touch for cocktails. With that view, comes an incredible executive chef, Laura Scollan. Chef Laura, as she prefers to be called has 20 years experience, working in some of the top gourmet restaurants in the country. Today she creates tantalizing dishes that touches the hearts of patrons who know healthy, quality, yet creative dishes. It's no wonder West Restaurant received the Open Table Diners Choice Award in 2012.

My dear friends, Tom Hallick, who you may remember as Brad Garret on "The Young and Restless and his wife Yin Jiang, a concert violinist who performs with Andrea Buchelli were my guest on this evening.

The first thing I ordered for everyone was a selection of side dishes which consisted of purple potato puree, garlic spinach, poached asparagus, braised brussel sprouts and truffled potato and leek gratin. Accompanying these were the appetizers. Kabocha bisque, consisting of crab feller, sage, in a creamed sauce was a delight. We also enjoyed the Harvest salad, prepared with brussel sprouts, pancetta, butternut dried cherries, and pumpkin seeds, mixed with a maple bourbon vinaigrette. "This is as gourmet as it gets," states Hallick. He was definitely right on this occasion.

On this Saturday evening, Chef Laura and her team served all the dishes. Actually, what we enjoyed was her tasting menu, which is six courses, all for a mere $65.00 per person.

The main entrees served were Braised lamb shank prepared with goat cheese, polenta, in a smoked tomato stew. Other dishes included Okinawan purple and garnet gnocchi with sage cream sauce, point reyes blue, and chestnuts, a Duck trio, which is roasted breast, braised leg, bacon, sausage, root vegetable with hash and braised sprouts and a hearty Rib eye and honey glazed Salmon.

This presentation was enough to feed an army. However, were all big eaters and handled the dining journey with ease.

Like all great chefs there's the creation of wonderful deserts. In this case, Chef Laura and a couple of her chefs create tantalizing deserts which aren't too heavy or too sweet. The Lemon torte topped with Mascarpone, raspberry and pistachio has just the right amount of tang to it to finish an evening of dining. There's also homemade gelatos and such to enjoy.

The West Restaurant has a selection boutique wines, as well and live jazz. They also have a brunch from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on Sundays. For reservations call (310) 481-7878.
