Sammy's - A Superb Culinary Journey

Pete Allman & Sammy LadekiSammy Ladeki, the founder of Sammy's Woodfire Pizza has always considered food to be the way to a person's heart. His restaurants, located throughout California, one in Manhattan Beach, a relatively new location in Henderson, Nevada, and soon in Sacramento all have the same ambiance and customer satisfaction. Known for their artisan pizzas, Sammy's new restaurant in Henderson, Nevada, is like dining in your own living room with comfortable couches. It has an open feeling around the perimeters of the restaurant with open air dining for the summers.

Mr. Ladeki's success however, has to do with a hands on operation, where he has focus groups each week, getting employees feedback as to what works and what can be improved in catering to the customer. This gives his employees a chance to be part of the family. "If a family is happy in the workplace, they'll be happy at home", states Ladeki.

Andres Carranza & Pete AllmanSammy's Woodfire PizzaWhile I had a nice conversation with Sammy Ladeki, my associate, Andres Carranza, a fine actor, director and cinematographer, who invited me to this dining journey, took some interesting photos. There's nothing like some mouthwatering pictures of delicious food in a restaurant story. So what makes Sammy's Woodfire Pizza so different than other restaurants?

For one, he uses organic locally grown produce and has his fish, chicken, and other meats selected from natural raised beef and such. "I do the food I like to eat," states Sammy. What he likes is as diverse as travelling around the globe, partaking in various culinary delights from those countries.

During our conversation, Mr. Ladeki introduced me to Anthony Chiattia, a former school teacher, who was asked to return to the organization by the former regional director for Mr. Ladeki. Mr. Chiattia recommended some wonderful dishes.

Sammy's Woodfire PizzaSammy's Woodfire PizzaOur dining journey begun with an order of Vietnamese salad and Mediterranean Dip Sampler. The Vietnamese salad was prepared mixed greens, lime juice, Asian shallots, walnuts, Chinese cabbage, cloves, sea salt, some chopped red chilies and some other ingredients I couldn't quite figure out. Ah, it was very tasty. The Mediterranean Dip Sampler was a selection of hummus, baba ghanoush, leban cheese with exotic spices, EVCO, and grilled flatbread.

Our main course was a selection of Blu Truffle oil pizza, oak roasted salmon filet on an Asian salad. The selection of both dishes was delicious. Other selections I would recommend include, mini duck tacos, lobster bisque soup.

Sammy's Woodfire PizzaSammy's Woodfire PizzaAll the produce and other items delivered to Sammy's are organic, including the mini duck tacos with chili peppers. Other items on the menu I recommend are as follows: Japanese style meatballs, oak roasted asparagus, Thai Chicken Satays, the Mini Kobe Hamburgers and Shrimp and Grits.

With just a little room for desert, it was time for the American favorite, the Messy Sundae prepared with Dryers ice cream, chocolate caramel sauce, with walnuts and whip cream, and salted caramel pudding. Time to go to for a walk and a good night sleep after this wonderful culinary journey.
