SPEAKING WITH STALLONE

sylvester stalloneRecently, I was at the movie premiere of “Resident Evil: Extinction” where I spoke to Sylvester Stallone, one of the investors, about the success of Planet Hollywood and its movie premieres, and we also spoke about health and wellness issues. According to Stallone, the success of Planet Hollywood started back with the restaurants by the same name. “It’s about team effort,” he said, adding, “That’s what makes it work.” On the grand opening, which will be on November 15, Stallone says he and Bruce Willis will host the premiere events. You can rest assured that there will be plenty of stars at this opening, unlike anything we’ve seen in the history of Las Vegas.

Regarding health, Stallone says we’re in a different kind of society now, where everywhere we look we see fast food. It’s a little different for Stallone concerning health issues. He says that for all his life he’s been an athlete. In fact, it’s always been his passion to keep in shape, including eating a healthy diet. “It’s an occupational necessity,” he said.

While I was on the red carpet, I also spoke with Pamela Anderson about her co-starring role with magician Hans Klok at his Planet Hollywood show. Anderson said magic is fun for her, but at the same time, there are technical challenges. From watching the show, it certainly appears that she’s having fun despite the challenges.

 

 


HONORS TO KENNY ROGERS

Kenny RogersKenny Rogers is being honored with ASCAP’s Golden Note Award at the 45th annual Country Music Awards celebration. The event is set for Oct 15 in Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium.

The invitation-only gala will also salute the songwriters and publishers of ASCAP’s most performed country songs of the past year. Rogers, who enjoyed his first hit, “What Condition My Condition Was In,” in the ’60s with First Edition, continues writing prolific songs, as well as continuing with his professional photography.

While aging gracefully, he is a happy family man. Last week, he performed to a crowd of 2,500 fans at the Casablanca Resort Events Center in Mesquite, Nevada. While a majority of his audience is between 50 and 70 year of age, he is also attracting a younger crowd. This may be attributed to his appearances in “The Gambler” movie series.
 
 


ALL MUST GO TO HUGO’S

In my travels, I always like to find new places to dine. In this case, I traveled to Mesquite, Nev., to Hugo’s Hilltop Restaurant located in the Highlands Resort. Hugo’s, surprisingly, is an upscale restaurant that caters to families and retirees. One special point about Hugo’s is that the restaurant’s namesake personally makes sure that everyone is pleased with their dining experience. Hugo traveled throughout the world and settled in Las Vegas in 1977 where he worked at Paisano’s when it opened at the Stardust Hotel.

“Those were my favorite days,” he stated. During that time, casino moguls Alan Glick and Frank Rosenthal were the power pins of the Stardust. In fact, according to Hugo, they were asked to put on a party for Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, and “money was no object.”

The bash for the two legends, complete with silk linens and Austrian china, came to half a million dollars. As the story goes, Hugo eventually decided to embark on his own and opened Hugo’s a short while back.
If you enjoy an eclectic mix of cuisine, with the focus on Italian seafood dishes and other surprises, (Hugo is originally from South America, so the flavors reflect that distinction), then you’ll love Hugo’s.
