Tony Gemignami's Pizza Rock Is Amazing

By Pete Allman

Pizza Rock - Front Entrance

11 Time Celebrity Chef Tony Gemignani, the World Pizza Cup Champion has opened a new pizza-club in Downtown Las Vegas. "Respect the Craft", on the outside of the brick building, is Tony's way of saying cooking is an art. That's exactly what is presented in this huge facility, across from The Downtown Grand. It's as serious as it gets, when you import an Cirigliano wood burning oven from Naples, Italy, and buy 3 more Stefano Ferrara ovens.

Pizza Rock is unique, in that it's also a night spot for locals and tourist. There's a Peterbilt that serves as the DJ booth and plenty of LCD screens through out the building for sports fans, not to mention a large four square bar that serves many brands of beer and hard liquor.

Tony Gemignami - Pizza RockTony Gemignami was born and raised on an apricot and cherry farm in Fremont, California. His family was a large one, with Tony at a very young age, cooking with his mother, who would only use the fruits and vegetables that came straight from the family farm.

This explains why Tony only uses the freshest ingredients and imports San Marzano tomatoes form Naples, Italy and Caputo flour from San Francisco and Fior di Latte from Italy for his pizzas.

In fact, Tony caters to vegetarians too and folks who have diabetes. His Gluten Free Pizza is excellent. They don't have that dry taste that other Gluten free pizzas have. The electric brick oven at 500 degrees, bakes a hand crusted Vegetarian pizza with tomato sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Roasted Red Peppers, Kalamata Olives, Goat Cheese, and Basil for $18.00. I've enjoyed this pizza and haven't tasted anything comparable. The Gluten Free Pancetta Gorgonzola, another popular item for vegetarians consist of Mozzarella, Smoked Pancetta, Gorgonzola Cheese, Mixed Greens, Agave Nectar, and Light Balsamic Vinaigrette. This pizza is also delicious and all for only $18.00. Other pizzas offered are Classic American, Italian, Sicilian, Neapolitan, Romana, New York style and various Italian dishes and sides such as Wood Fired Asparagus, Wood Fired Carrots, Garlic Mashed Potatoes and SauteÚd Mushrooms. It's the quality worth paying for that counts when bringing the family out. That's also why Tony has his chefs cook with Oak, Almond and Cherry Wood. The wood and the imported ingredients make each pizza unlike any other pizza.

Ah, Pizza Rock also has fresh homemade deserts for those with a sweet tooth. Desert Calzone which consist of Fuji Apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, with caramel drizzle and vanilla ice cream is a delightful and tasty sensation.

You may have seen or read bout Tony Gemignani in USA Today, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Rachel Ray, The Food Channel, Emeril Live, The Travel Channel and now Celebrity Scene News. He's been given the title of U.S. ambassador of Neapolitan pizza by the city of Naples. Only three people in the world have received this title. The last note of authority would also go to Mr. Gemignani for being inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the worlds largest pizza as well as rolls across the shoulders, a unique throwing trick which involves rolling the pizza dough along the back of the shoulders. There's only one thing left to do. Take a trip to Pizza Rock at 201 North Third Street or call (702) 385-0838.

Hours of operation are Monday - Thursday 11:00 AM - 12:00 AM and Friday and Saturday 11:00 AM - 4:00 AM
